Through Temptation
Another day passes and my surrender is tested in the fires of temptation. Even the smallest of vices become the largest of threats, and my heart struggles to remember the fire of another day, the fire of another time. Yet it is truly in this moment of temptation which you most intensely pursue me. At my weakest moment, you choose to be with me because your love is such that you desire my will; you desire a free choice. You desire me to turn to you when I am the most disinclined to. O Lord, surely there is nothing fonder or more dear to your heart than seeing your beloved child willingly choose you over a moment's pleasure. How beautiful it must be to see your son run back to you after a quarrel or to have him give up what he wants most to stay with you. Your perfect and divine love is reflected in these actions. You ask nothing more, but you ask nothing less. Help me, then, to continue on with confidence that my surrender is sustained by such a transcendent love.
Come Holy Spirit, and fill the hearts of your faithful, and kindle in them the fire of Your Divine Love. Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the earth. Oh God, Who by the light of the Holy Spirit instructed the hearts of the faithful, Grant, that by the same Spirit we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in His consolation. We ask this through Christ Our Lord.
Amen.
